The institution that will host the

8th Balkan Symposium on Archaeometry in 2022

is the

Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences, Laboratory of Physics, Belgrade, Serbia.

 

Attention: Following on the guidelines from the Greek National Public Health Organization and the new strict measures for the cessation of the coronavirus in Attica, the Rector and the Administration Council of the University of West Attica decide the 7th Balkan Symposium on Archaeometry to be held only remotely.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to thank you for your invitation in this unique event. I am very glad to see Greece hosting the Balcanic Symposium this year, the country that is home to a wealth of cultural resources.

Culture is an invaluable tourism resource, and conversely, tourism provides important economic support for cultural promotion and preservation. The nexus between tourism and culture thus offers an immense opportunity to contribute to inclusive economic growth, social development and stability and heritage preservation.

Archaeometry is a source of information on the degree and form of craft specialization and standardization, factors that are indicators of commercial, cultural, and political developments. Beyond the mere study of the past, archaeometry’s role increasingly proves affinity to prosperity, if properly managed.

This is why we should acknowledge and take advantage of the dynamic of archaeometry in cultural tourism and archaeotourism, sectors where Greece has a leading role.

Ministry of Tourism will have a supporting role to all efforts that promote a new model of tourism in the digital era.

I want to congratulate the organising committee of the event and express my support to the efforts of University of West Attica, the Hellenic Society for Archaeometry (HSA) and the Second-level Non Profit Organisation “Diktio Perrevia”.

The University of West Attica is pleased to announce the dates for the 7th Balkan Symposium on Archaeometry. The Symposium will take place between 22-25 September 2020 in the premises of the University of West Attica in Athens. This international symposium aims to highlight recent advances in the archaeometric applications to archaeology and cultural heritage in the wide area of the Balkan countries and to provide an international academic forum for dissemination of results of current research in these fields in the region. The Symposium is addressed to the international scientific community of archaeologists, archaeological and heritage scientists, and researchers. The main theme of the Symposium is: “Science and Heritage” and it will focus on interdisciplinary research projects on cultural heritage of the Balkan countries. The Symposium is organized by the University of West Attica, The Hellenic Society for Archaeometry (HSA) and the Second-level Non Profit Organisation “Diktio Perrevia” (Perrevia Network). Papers on all aspects of research on archaeometrical applications to archaeology and cultural heritage in the Balkan region are welcome. The results of long-term research projects, evaluation of new and past methodologies, as well as problem oriented and comparative studies are welcome. The geographical scope of the workshop is inclusive, encompassing the Balkan countries and the Black sea, while the chronological scope ranges from the earliest prehistory to medieval and historical periods.
